Mother

I have this expressionist book that talked about doing the shading, inside part of the body first, and then draw the lines of the body afterward. It's definitely more challenging to do it backward, but it was fun too.

Untitled

I had an idea in my head of what this would look like, but I don't quite have the talent to put on paper exactly what I see in my head. But, I still like it. I was going for more a heartbreaking thing, but it sort of turned into something else. I'm still not great at this whole shading business.

Lady

I used watercolor paint, acrylic paint, and charcoal for the bugs. I've never used watercolor before but I really like it, so think I'll probably be using it a lot more. I like how you can make it not super precise but it still creates the idea of what you want. I don't think I should have used charcoal, but whatever. You learn.

Wings

Cainen said this was his favorite but the head was too small. I told him it was a skull, so it's going to be a little smaller. He said still, it's too small. Geez! Everybody's a critic. :)

Split

This is meant to be a little blurry. In the background is a brain with arteries and stem. Then on tracing paper I drew a face which I ripped into five pieces. I taped these strips of a face over the brain. It has a sort of blurred look but if you look closely you can tell  there's a face. I actually really like this one.

Noise

This isn't really the most skilled artwork, but it got me through a rough couple of hours.

Leaves: Rough Draft

This is what I'm working on right now. There will be a lot more leaves- leaves are a pain to draw btw!- and some dirt, more definition, shading, and color. Once I get all these leaves drawn in. Ugh, between bees and leaves each drawing is going to take me forever.

Noisy Bees

This is what I imagined my brain was like yesterday. Buzzing buzzing buzzing little bees, were my thoughts.

My Brain

I got one of those styrofoam balls at Hobby Lobby and painted it various colors to represent different parts of my brain. The colors, size, and objects on it all represent specific things for me, which I don't think it matters for me to share. I'm going to map it out with pins next. It was a lot of fun and I'm going to buy Madison and Cainen each one so they can make their own. If anyone has kids, or do it for yourself, I think it's a really good idea to help kids figure out their feelings and practice naming things about themselves. It takes a few days to do because you can only paint one section at a time and have to let it dry. I used this square candle holder thing I have to set it on, to dry.
